Remembering Dr. Geoffery Marks- Ceylon's First Olympic Swimmer

Today's fact of the day is about Ceylon's first ever Olympic representation in Swimming- Dr. Geoffery Marks, a man made for the Water and the Sea but his true calling came in Forests and Trees!

Born on this day in 1932, he was the son of a school headmaster (who went by the 'Sinhalanized' name of Monaragala as a comment by his nephew of the same name) and the eldest sibling who were all swimmers from a young age. Having initially gained his education at Ananda and Royal Colleges, he went on to become an undergraduate at the Faculty of Science at the University of Colombo.
