Breaking the National Record in 1989
For the benefit of the non-Sinhala readers, this article headlined "Dissanayake, Benildus, Weerasinghe and Gunasekara break the Men's 4x100m National Record" is an encapsulation of his determination back in 1989 after he was dropped from the relay team before the 4th South Asian Games in Pakistan, and made a stunning comeback to become a National Record holder a few weeks later.
