Jehan Mubarak who turns 44 years today is the one of two US-born Cricketers to play Test Cricket, and has unique achievements in academics and sports altogether

Did you know that there are two Cricketers born in USA who have played Test Cricket? One is Ken Weekes, the cousin of West Indian legend Sir Everton Weekes and the other is Jehan Mubarak, a former Sri Lanka Cricketer.
Born on this day in Washington DC, Jehan was born to Dr. Azeez Mubarak (a renowned Scientist and Researcher) and Chithranganie De Silva (IT Researcher and former ICTA Chairperson). Naturally, academics was a main focus in his family but Jehan was a multi talented sportsman who represented Royal College in Cricket, Water Polo and Swimming, captaining the water sports.

In fact, he was a Swimmer who later turned to Cricket and has participated in many age group swimming championships. He also has the unique achievement of playing the Hayman for 5 years (annual Royal Thomian Water Polo encounter).
The Unlucky Under 19 Finals
He was part of the Sri Lanka Under 19 team that played in the U19 World Cup finals against India in 2000. The Malintha Gajanayake led team is the only instance where SLU19 ever came into the finals but succumbed to the strong Indian opposition who won their maiden title. Jehan top score for Sri Lanka with 58 as the only notable contribution while India chased 179 in just 40.4 overs.

He entered the Faculty of Science at the University of Colombo, playing Cricket at the Inter University Games and also for the Domestic Circuit.
