Pathirage & Peters Pre-Book Tickets to Finals in Brussels!
With an outstanding 88.68m throw in the Doha Leg of the Diamond League, Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage secures his place in the Finals alongside Anderson Peters.
Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, the World Lead in Men's Javelin this year and New World No.2 this week just returned back to Sri Lanka not many hours ago, but has also pre-booked his place in the Diamond League Finals in Brussels with his performance in Doha yesterday!
We know many missed this, so we thought of highlighting how important this achievement in having secured this place with 23 points across 3 Legs, and Anderson Peters from Grenada also qualifying with one point behind, notably being the only athlete to beat Rumesh this year as he took home the Diamond in the Rabat Leg.

Second Sri Lankan Finalist since Yupun
With the Lausanne and Zurich Legs merely serving as practice grounds before the Grand Finale at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, Belgium, Rumesh becomes the first Sri Lankan athlete since Yupun Abeykoon to secure a place in the Finals, who ran the Men's 100m in 2021 and 2022, at Weltklasse Zurich which previously hosted the 2 Day Final.
Yupun Abeykoon in 2021 Diamond League Final
With an outstanding track record of 6 wins in 7 competitions this year, Rumesh's 88.68m throw in Doha yesterday means that he now has the World's Best 5 Throws for this year, with Peters coming in second best from this year's performers with a seasonal best of 86.38m.
This means that Rumesh is the only athlete this year to throw over 86.5m, in 5 events, and not forgetting the 90m achieved in Rome that made headlines worldwide as the first 90+m throw since the 2024 Olympics. In fact, everyone except Rumesh in yesterday's Top 6 achieved Seasonal Best throws, but his overall 4th best throw this season exceeded everyone by at least 2 meters!
Back to back wins for Rumesh!
Next Stop - Glasgow!
Having also competed in Ostrava Golden Spike this week before heading to Doha and also becoming the second Sri Lankan since Yupun to win an event in one of the oldest competitions in Europe which serves as a leg in the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold, Rumesh's next big event is the Commonwealth Games next month. His opponents? Nearly the same as yesterday, with Arshad Nadeem the defending Olympic Gold medalist in the lineup!
